Friends from the news media
A very good morning to all of you!

First of all, I would like to invite all of you to give a big round of applause in welcoming our distinguished guests to this press conference today.

Today marks a happy occasion. The Associate Dean of the School of Medicine & Medical Science of University College Dublin, Dr. Patrick Felle, and President and Dean of Penang Medical College, Professor Amir Sharifuddin Mohd Khir, are here today to announce the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) of Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools as an admission qualification for the Bachelor Degree in Medicine at University College Dublin (UCD) and Penang Medical College (PMC). In this relation, our two distinguished guests will be making specific announcements on matters such as the UEC result requirements, course length, medical training and medical practising certificates.

We owe this achievement today to the mutual visits and contact initiated last year between Dong Zong and the institutions of higher learning in Ireland. At the time, an education delegation formed by Dong Zong and six Independent Chinese Secondary Schools and other organisations travelled to Ireland for an educational visit. This activity was carried out with the assistance of Enterprise Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland in Malaysia, and has promoted educational exchanges and collaboration between the two countries. The Irish government has provided many excellent conditions for attracting Malaysian students to study in Ireland, including allowing students to work outside their study schedules and during holidays.

In May last year, in the company of the Education Consultant of EducationIreland, Mr. C.K. Chiau, we visited Enterprise Ireland and 12 institutions of higher learning in Ireland, including University College Dublin. About two months later, representatives of Enterprise Ireland and University College Dublin paid a visit to Dong Zong and held a further discussion on matters relating to the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) and the furthering of studies by students.

Our efforts eventually paid off. University College Dublin, a top university ranked among the world’s top 200, is announcing its recognition of the UEC today. This is such happy news. Please join me in giving a big round of applause in celebration of this great affirmation and recognition. Dong Zong would specifically like to thank the Embassy of Ireland in Malaysia, Enterprise Ireland, University College Dublin, Penang Medical College and Mr. C.K. Chiau for all the support and assistance provided.

Currently, there are many domestic and foreign institutions of higher learning have given recognition to the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) of Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools as an admission qualification, thus Dong Zong urges the Government of Malaysia and Ministry of Education to quickly recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Thank you.
