About Us

United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) was established on 22 August 1954. Dong Zong is the leading institution for the 13 Association of Chinese School Management Boards and the Association of Chinese School Management Boards and Teachers. The members registered societies under the Societies Act and the most members come from the school boards of independent Chinese secondary schools and Chinese primary schools. Some of the members are the boards of directors of Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK).

The Chinese community manages these schools through the establishment of school management boards (Board of Directors). The members of a school board are elected from the general assembly meeting of sponsors, which typically consists of individuals, stakeholders and representatives from organisations who care about mother tongue education.

After its establishment in 1954, Dong Zong has spared no efforts in defending and developing mother tongue education for the Chinese Community and has persistently striven for fair and equal education treatment for all ethnic groups over the years. It has since been working closely with the United Chinese School Teacher’s Association of Malaysia (Jiao Zong) to strive for the education rights of Chinese community. Bound by their common agenda against unequal policies, the two major leading organisations for Chinese education soon became close allies, and they were then merged in name as “Dong Jiao Zong”. They became close comrades-in-arms. After half a century of struggles, hardships and challenges, Dong Jiao Zong successfully and firmly establishes its prominent image as the spokesperson for Chinese education in Malaysia and the leading institution for community-run Chinese education.

Logo

The Association’s emblem is composed of both symbol and standard wordmark. The symbol of the Association is an image of flaming torch, which reflects the ethnic identity, cultural heritage, aspiration for peace, harmonious cooperative effort and solidarity. The ultimate significance of this symbol is the passing of the Dong Zong’s mission from one generation to another. The standard wordmark is made up of “Dong Zong”, which is written in both traditional Chinese and English, reflecting the Dong Zong’s sustainable development, projection beyond the present and into the future.

The Association’s emblem has a combination of colours, i.e. purple, red, orange and yellow. The colour combination represents the Dong Zong’s spirit of looking forward to the future, leading with vision, ultimate mission and value realization.
